Dear Amelia,
The alpha summit is where everything started. It is what you can say is the beginning. The meeting was where we learned about what was to come, we just didn’t know it yet.
Devyn and I kept our situationship quiet. And we kept our feelings away from everyone. We didn’t want rumors to spread, or for anyone to think he was getting special treatment from me. And although Tristan gave me his blessing to see Devyn, nothing was official between us. Though, I did call him my boyfriend to one of the human waiters.
Anyway, at the meeting with the North American alphas, I was challenged. It wasn’t the first time I was challenged by an alpha, but it was the first indirect challenge. Colton, the alpha who challenged me, was a new alpha. I had left his father crippled, stripped of his title, and had his pack dismantle after he challenged me a couple of years prior. I should have killed him, but I showed mercy. Now that I’m thinking about it, how did Colton become an alpha without a pack?
Colton challenged me, but he only wanted to fight Jordan. Which was dumb because Jordan is much more ruthless than I am. Colton gave me a bad feeling. It was more than his arrogance and misogyny. Something about him was off. I just didn’t know what it was. What did I know was that he was planning something.
At the time, I told Devyn what I was thinking, and he seemed to have thought the same. We thought Colton was using this challenge to gain something. We just didn’t know what it was. I thought it was to test the other alphas, to see who really supported me. Or, to gauge my strength by going through Jordan. Whatever it was, it needed to end.
After meeting with the lunas, I invited Kevin and Beth to my room for dinner. My relationship with Beth started improving after Selene showed herself at Devyn’s alpha ceremony. She apologized for how she acted and we’ve been building ever since. Still, after all those years, it was awkward between us.
I used that dinner to talk to everyone, including Devyn, Jordan and Stella, about Colton and a few other things.
I told them that me and Devyn were seeing each other. It was the first time I said it out loud. Only Devyn and Beth were surprised by my announcement. Beth didn’t expect me to admit it. And Devyn thought I wanted to keep it a secret. And technically, I never actually asked him out. But right there I defined our relationship, and that’s how we officially started dating.
I also told them to be wary of Colton. When I ran into him in the hallway, I didn’t sense him at all. Gaia didn’t either. But she did sense something for a second before she was out of it. This information alarmed Stella. She told me to reach out to Gaia, the goddess. She suspected fairy magic.
The last thing we talked about was the challenge. I expressed my concerns that Colton might fight dirty or submit before he is killed. I asked Jordan to kill him before he had a chance to submit. And of course, to be careful.
I’m not going to lie and say I wasn’t nervous. I was extremely nervous. Every time someone challenged Jordan, I was nervous. I have the utmost confidence that Jordan could win any fight. But he’s my best friend, my brother. I didn’t like seeing him fight. Or get hurt. But I was the queen and he was my guardian. I had to show no fear.
